Newman K. Perry Reunion - - - - 21-24 October 2010

 

The time is rapidly approaching for the next batch of “Navy Lies”.  We need to decide who is going to bring the “Truth Stretchers” this year – should it be the enlisted men or the officers.  If I remember correctly, last year both sides were spreading the fertilizer quite well, well enough that some of the flowers were dying.  So polish up the “Truth Stretchers” and buy another bag of fertilizer because we will meet in Myrtle Beach again the 21-24 of October 2010.

I am trying to get this information out as early as I can because some of the Shipmates and/or wives are still working outside the home, some are working inside the home taking care of grandchildren and need time to make their time-off plans.

I am not sure whether you people realize it or not but, this reunion cannot continue much longer.  Those that regularly attend are getting older each year (surprise) and obviously each year we lose a few more.  If we do not get some younger people attending - this group will be lucky to last 5 more years.  Right now the largest group of attendees was on the ship from 1962 to 1972.  The 1964-1968 is the largest group.  As you will see from the picture below our crew is starting to get old.  We need younger people.

Last year we went to the Alabama Theater on Friday it was great.  I will assume that we will be attending the show this year also.  The best part of the show was at the end when they acknowledged the large group of service men from the Newman K. Perry.  It was a very touching tribute.

 Joyce Carter and her crew will be in charge of the hospitality room for the reunion. We are planning to have some good home cooked food hoping to please everyone.  We will need to know how many people to prepare for, therefore, we will need a head count. We hope to have something for all to enjoy. 

When you make your reservation a non-refundable check for $25 should be sent to the Secretary/Treasurer.  Make sure the return address is legible this is just in case you are a new attendee and just by chance I may not have your address.

This money is used for door-prizes, to stock the hospitality room and whatever small incidentals the reunion staff finds necessary.   Either make the check payable to John, or NK Perry Reunion Association.
